What is AIT?AIT (Advanced Intelligent Tape) is a magnetic tape format developed by Sony Corporation. AIT tapes contain a non-voliatile memory called Memory-in-Cassette (MIC). This memory stores data about the tape which can be read quickly by an AIT drive, without having to read data from the slower magnetic media. AIT Magnetic MediaAIT uses Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) tape. AME tape is created by vaporizing cobalt and depositing it directly on the base film. AME tape technology gives AIT tape both high-capacity and exceptional durability. An AIT tape should support 30,000 media uses with an MTBF of 400,000 hours. AIT Tape Capacities
AIT Physical SpecificationsAIT tapes are 95mm x 62.5mm x 15.0mm. This compact format of AIT tapes is very convenient for use in 3.5" drive bays. AIT AlternativesAIT alternatives include DLT and LTO.
